"Evantage Building commenced construction of our new home on 6th April 2020 and finished on 30th March 2021 in under 12 months.
Evan Mackenzie and his team (Lewis, Tim and Ben) from Evantage Building commenced construction as the first COVID – 19 restrictions were introduced in NSW. We were very apprehensive and had detailed discussions with Evan and his team about how to safely start a large project during this time of uncertainty. Eventually, we felt confident and assured to start the build which turned out to be an excellent decision.

Evan brought his Master Builder knowledge and experience to the project, transforming our design drawings to a custom bespoke home. We pushed boundaries in many areas and Evan listened and always found the solution, never sacrificing on the quality.

Our site is very exposed, facing the full forces of the Easterly winds from the ocean on a cliff face overlooking Collaroy Beach. The site was classified as high bushfire attack level (BAL40) which required considerable building expertise and effort. In addition, Evan had to work around extreme BASIX solar compliance and a high N3 wind rating with the consultants and engineers.

He has  achieved a remarkable home, capturing magnificent ocean views within the strict building regulations. The existing old double red brick 1960’s house and garage were carefully and safely demolished, economically using the brickwork remnants wherever possible. New double brick walls, steelwork and glass were installed to extend the bottom level to a large open plan to cater for kitchen and living areas. A Wow feature was the decision to raise the total bottom level ceilings to three meters while not sacrificing any ceiling height on the top level. 
The top level continues with ocean views from all rooms, entry and sitting areas were opened and a newly created sunroom captures the winter sun in a perfect space. A large master bedroom, walk-in robe, en-suite and balcony were created all of which are superb. 

Evan and his Team tackled all the works on the site proficiently, starting with a complex and large suspended concrete terrace adjoining to the newly renovated pool. Retaining walls around pool plus large patio that seamlessly flows into the living and dining room.

Overall a truly fantastic job – planned and professionally constructed, getting all levels correct with no steps or tripping hazards. A real credit to Evan and his team for a lot of hard work and supervision/guidance of contractors.  

Evan also brought excellent quality trades from brickies & concreters, renders, plumbers, electrical, steel and timber suppliers, roofing contractor, plasterers, tiler and balustrade installers which we thank them all.

Evan is a builder with integrity and a master craftsman. He does not cut corners and will take on any problem and resolve it. He expects a high standard of work from his team of very capable and friendly carpenters. We thank especially Lewis for the work of newly build timber stairs from recycled timber from the roof bearers and Tim on the new black butt timber flooring. Lastly Ben for all the tireless hours on site housekeeping and being the added carpentry hand.

We are delighted with our new, bespoke home built within our budget and thank Evan and wish him for the best for a long career in the Building Industry."
